Experimental Studies on the Progesterone Antibody

Abstract
Progesterone was emulsified in Freund adjuvant with egg albumin powder and used for sensitization of ten albino rabbits weighing 2, 500-200gm by injecting intradermally in multiple sites in the dorsal skin, intramuscularly into the gluteal muscles, and smeared on the-scarified dorsal. skin simultaneously for five consecutive days.
Two weeks after the last sensitization, the animals were bled partially, and antibodies to progesterone in sera were -studied by precipitation, complement fixation, hemagglutination, modified hemolysis, and Prausnitz-Ktistner tests.
One day after the partial bleeding, skin test were performed by intradermal injection of prog esterone used as reacting antigen.
The results obtained were summarized as follows.
1. Ring precipitation and agar-gel diffusion tests, neither precipitation rings nor bands were detected in sera of sensitized rabbits.
2. The serda of-sensitized rabbits showed negative complement fixation reactions. but nine out of ten sensitized rabbits developed serum antibodies, which were detected by hemagglutination and modified hemolytic tests.
3. The intradermal, skin tests showed, some parallel in hemagglutination and modified hemolytic tests.
4. The positive results of Prausnitz-Ktistner test may indicate the production of specific progesterone antibodies in sera of sensitized animals.
